The song I hate the most
Growing up in Cleveland, Eric Carmen was the local musician that "made it." OK...and Wild Cherry and lately, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
But in this week's singing class, David asked us to come in with the song we hated most.
And I chose "All By Myself."
Ick.
The cool thing about the class (and the takeaway) was that even the songs we hate the most can become audition material if we own the music, the performance and the ideas put forth by the lyrics. I realized that when I got divorced, and I was living in a garrett on the third floor of a rooming house while I got my bearings, I hadn't been exposed to that song. I might have identified with it then.
And I certainly did after David's class.
This Thursday, we have to come in with a song that completely describes how we view ourselves. I've grabbed Ordinary Day by Vanessa Carlton. We'll see how that plays out.
